Aura Wastewater Project

Unitywater is investing in new wastewater infrastructure to meet future demand in a growing community. This important work will mean a continued safe and reliable wastewater service for the Aura community.

The new wastewater infrastructure will help meet the Sunshine Coast’s growing population demands, both now and into the future, including the 50,000 residents who will live in Aura by 2050.

The project is part of Unitywater’s commitment to support emerging communities on the Sunshine Coast by investing in sustainable water and wastewater infrastructure to meet population growth. In doing so, Unitywater will play its part in contributing to future construction industry opportunities at a critical time in our region.

Unitywater will continue to upgrade and invest in wastewater infrastructure in a sustainable way to meet the demands of our growing region.

Project Details:

  • The Aura Wastewater Project will include construction of a new sewer pump station and installation of 12.5kms of new wastewater pipeline to transfer wastewater to our Kawana Wastewater Treatment Plant from Aura in Caloundra South.
  • Construction commenced in mid 2023 and is expected to be completed by late 2026, weather and construction conditions permitting.
  • Together, with our construction partner McConnell Dowell, we will work closely with the local community to keep them informed about the project and reduce any disruption.

Kawana Forest Bushland Trail: Temporarily closed to public during construction from end March - end July, 2026

What to expect

The Kawana Forest Bushland Trail will be temporarily closed from end of March 2026 and reopened to the public again by the end of July 2026.

The reason for this temporary closure is to enable us to connect the wastewater pipeline into the Kawana Wastewater Treatment Plant with a temporary bypass line to resolve unforeseen technical issues.

Above ground pipeline

The temporary overland bypass pipeline will be seen above ground and will follow the access track through the bushland. This is not the permanent solution; however, it is likely the temporary overland bypass will be in place for between three to five years.

We will keep you informed with any further changes to trail.

Thankyou to our patient and understanding community for your support during the construction of this vital wastewater pipeline infrastructure.
