Unitywater is investing in new water infrastructure to meet future demand in a growing community. This important work will mean a continued safe and reliable water service for the Aura community.
The new water infrastructure will help meet the Sunshine Coast’s growing population demands, both now and into the future, including the 50,000 residents who will live in Aura by 2050.
The project is part of Unitywater’s commitment to support emerging communities on the Sunshine Coast by investing in sustainable water and wastewater infrastructure to meet population growth.
Unitywater will continue to upgrade and invest in water supply infrastructure in a sustainable way to meet the demands of our growing region.
Project Details:
The Aura Water Project includes construction of a new water reservoir and installation of 12kms of new water pipeline from the Ewen Maddock Water Treatment Plant to Aura in Caloundra South.
Aura’s water reservoir will be located on the western side of the Bruce Highway, just across from the Aura development.
Construction commenced in mid 2023 and is expected to be completed by late 2026, weather and construction conditions permitting.
Together, with our construction partner McConnell Dowell, we are working closely with the local community to keep you informed about the project and reduce any disruption.
Old Caloundra Road, Landsborough - Now Re-open
The Aura and Harmony Program team would like to take this chance to thank the local community for their patience and understanding during the closure of Old Caloundra Road to undertake essential infrastructure works.
This closure has enabled us to safely install a critical section of the Aura water pipeline.
Completing this work as quickly and as safely as possible has been a priority for our team.
We understand this has been an impact to the local community and we would like to thank you for your patience. It is greatly appreciated.

Please include information on your website about where the offsets from clearing Koala and Greater Glider habitat will occur.
Please also include more information in regards to the reinstatement activities that will occur and what your company is doing to prevent invasive species from appearing in these cleared areas during and after the pipeline install.

Hi there and thank you for your interest in the Aura Water Project. We appreciate the time you have taken to write to us with your questions.
We understand the value the community places on the environment and are taking all possible measures to ensure our works have as minimal impact to the local environment as possible. These works are also being conducted in strict accordance with the approvals in place for this project. Unitywater have sustainability front of mind and will be re-using suitable trees for Sunshine Coast Council's Coarse Woody Debris Program which will become habitat logs and are ensuring Class A Durability Timber set aside for nesting boxes. Trees which are not suitable for any other purpose have been mulched and used for erosion protection and sediment control in the Aura Water construction zone. In the event of excess mulch, we are also working closely with Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS).
In relation to the offsets from the approved vegetation clearing, these are being managed by both Sunshine Coast Council (SCC) and Department of Environment, Science and Innovation (DESI), in accordance with our State Assessment and Referral Agency (SARA) approval.
In relation to the reinstatement activities and what we are doing to prevent invasive species, our contractor is required to implement a weed management process through regular monitoring and eradication of invasive weed species through weed spraying or removal; following the completion of the work, the verges, tracks and swales will be reinstated as best possible to pre-existing conditions and as required by Council and Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) which will include re-establishment of grass and native species to these areas.
