Aura Wastewater Project
Unitywater is investing in new wastewater infrastructure to meet future demand in a growing community. This important work will mean a continued safe and reliable wastewater service for the Aura community.
The new wastewater infrastructure will help meet the Sunshine Coast’s growing population demands, both now and into the future, including the 50,000 residents who will live in Aura by 2050.
The project is part of Unitywater’s commitment to support emerging communities on the Sunshine Coast by investing in sustainable water and wastewater infrastructure to meet population growth. In doing so, Unitywater will play its part in contributing to future construction industry opportunities at a critical time in our region.
Unitywater will continue to upgrade and invest in wastewater infrastructure in a sustainable way to meet the demands of our growing region.
Project Details:
- The Aura Wastewater Project will include construction of a new sewer pump station and installation of 12.5kms of new wastewater pipeline to transfer wastewater to our Kawana Wastewater Treatment Plant from Aura in Caloundra South.
- Construction commenced in mid 2023 and is expected to be completed by late 2026, weather and construction conditions permitting.
- Together, with our construction partner McConnell Dowell, we will work closely with the local community to keep them informed about the project and reduce any disruption.

Bells Creek Arterial Shared User Path: Reopened!
Thank you to our community and bicycle user groups for your patience and understanding over the past two years that we've had the Bells Creek Arterial (BCA) shared user path temporarily closed.
This reopened on 30 June 2025 after the important infrastructure wastewater pipeline section was completed and restored.
Kawana Bushland River Trail: Shared path temporarily closed until September 2025
As part of our program of works, the wastewater pipeline alignment is being drilled underground on the same alignment as some parts of the Kawana Bushland River Trail.
The construction team has experienced technical difficulties completing the final section of the Aura wastewater pipeline into the Kawana Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) due to unfavourable ground conditions (and significant weather and swampland conditions have made this space difficult to navigate).
There will be areas at the northern end of the bushland closest to the Kawana WWTP that will need to remain closed until the technical difficulties are resolved and construction of the wastewater pipeline can be completed.
We will look to reopen all other areas by the end of September 2025 within the bushland once they have been reinstated to the appropriate levels required by Council.
Signage notifying of the closure will be updated for the safety of all users of the bushland trail. Learn more about the closure and reinstatement works via the latest works notification.
The Aura and Harmony Program sincerely apologises for this delay. Unfortunately, these issues were unforeseeable. Thankyou for your understanding and patience as we seek to find an appropriate solution and have the pipeline completed as soon as possible.
