FAQs
Can I use my uVolunteer day to support an organisation of my choosing?
Yes you can! So long as the organisation is within Unitywater's service region (Moreton Bay, Noosa or Sunshine Coast), and you seek prior approval from your manager.
You'll still need to record your hours on TechOne, and reach out to The Community Team to organise your uVolunteer shirt!
What hours will I be required to volunteer?
Hours vary for each volunteering activity and community partner need. If the activity runs for less time than your ordinary working hours, you are expected to complete the remainder of your working hours for the day, or apply for annual leave if you do not wish to complete your ordinary working hours.
The activity I have selected only runs for half a day, can I register for a second activity that also runs for half a day?
Yes, providing that the two activities combined do not total more than a total of one day of your ordinary hours.
Who is eligible to participate?
All team members directly employed by Unitywater are eligible to participate in the uVolunteer program.
How will I be paid when I volunteer?
Team members can access one day of volunteer time each calendar year. This day is based on the ordinary hours worked in your role. This day does not attract penalty rates, travel compensation, or other allowances.
Once you have found your uVolunteer opportunity- seek approval from your leader.
Then you can log your volunteer hours through TechOne. Select 'Volunteer' leave if within normal work hours or as 'VOIL' if outside normal work hours.
If I am sick and cannot attend, who should I notify?
Please notify your volunteering contact person at the organisation you were volunteering with, notify your Leader and email community@unitywater.com as soon as you are aware you cannot attend. It is important that we notify the community partner as early as possible. If you have applied for leave via TechOne please cancel this entry.
Do I need a Blue Card?
If the uVolunteer opportunity involves any contact with children then you will require a Blue Card. This is a requirement of Unitywater's Safeguarding Children and Young People Procedure (Pr10757).
You can apply for a Blue Card here.
Unitywater will reimburse the cost of your Blue Card. Speak to your leader to find out more, or contact community@unitywater.com for further guidance.
Typically the processing time for Blue Cards is relatively quick but we do recommend allowing up to 2-4 weeks for your application to be processed and your temporary card to be received.
