As a part of Unitywater's commitment to supplying safe and reliable water infrastructure and services to our community, we are commencing a program to replace and upgrade existing air and scour valves along major trunk mains in the Moreton Bay and Sunshine Coast areas.
These valves are essential components of Unitywater’s large-diameter water mains, which transport treated water from major reservoirs and treatment plants to local distribution networks. Air valves help release trapped air and scour valves allow controlled drainage within the network, keeping water flowing safely and efficiently to homes and businesses.
Work on key trunk water mains within the Image Flat, Landers Shute and Jinker Track network corridors will commence in December 2025 and be completed by June 2026.
Project Details
These works will include:
Locating and exposing the existing valve (in some instances using excavation or non-destructive digging).
Replacing the existing air or scour valve with a new unit.
Reconstructing or upgrading valve pits or maintenance holes where required.
Installing or replacing pit lids, markers and fittings where required.
Restoring the work area to existing conditions on completion of works.
Works at each site will range from one to five days, due to the varying conditions of the existing infrastructure across each site, the impact and extent of works may vary.
Any disruption to the work area will be restored post-construction.
During Construction
Work will generally take place between 6.30am and 6pm Monday to Friday, with some Saturday work if required.
Some noise can be expected from construction vehicles, excavation and general construction activities. Every effort will be made to minimise disruption as much as possible.
For safety, temporary lane closures, reduced speed limits, changes to on-street parking or short-term pedestrian detours may be in place. Traffic control and signage will guide motorists and pedestrians through the area.
Access will be maintained for residents, businesses, pedestrians, cyclists, and emergency services at all times.
Where works occur near residential properties, our team will liaise directly with property owners to coordinate safe access and minimise disruption.
It is not anticipated there will be interruptions to your water service during these works. If a planned water outage is required, impacted properties will receive advance notification with details on timing and what to do.
Works taking place within or alongside environmentally sensitive areas, such as Bunyaville Conservation Park, are being carefully managed to protect native vegetation, minimise disturbance, and restore the environment once works are complete.
All works will be carried out in accordance with environmental management requirements and Unitywater’s commitment to protecting local habitats and biodiversity.
Our construction crew will work to minimise impacts on the community as this program of works is rolled out. We thank you for your patience while we complete these works to keep our community safe.
