Yandina Creek Wetlands Tours

Thankyou to everyone who joined us for these tours!

In celebration of National Water Week 2023, Unitywater will be conducting two guided tours of Yandina Creek Wetlands (YCW). Unitywater owns and manages YCW for the main purpose of improving water quality within the Maroochy River Catchment. The wetlands have become a bird lovers paradise and home to some 100-plus species of wildlife.

About YCW

In 2016, Unitywater purchased two lots of former cane farming land on River Road, Maroochy River as part of a larger program to improve the health of the rivers and creeks in the area. Much of the former cane land has been restored as a wetland. This wetland removes nutrients and sediments from the river, which improves water quality and overall river health. Unitywater can offset the amount of nutrients removed by these wetlands against the nutrients discharged to the Maroochy River following treatment of the local community’s sewage.

Whilst the site is always open for the community to enjoy, guided tours provide a deeper insight to the project and how it contributes to Unitywater’s sustainability solutions across our water and wastewater networks, treatment plants, facilities and fleet as we strive to meet our net zero target by 2040.
