Valve and Hydrant Renewal Program

As a part of Unitywater's commitment to supplying safe and reliable water infrastructure and services to our community, we are commencing our annual Valve and Hydrant Renewal Program to replace over 500 fire hydrants and valves across the Moreton Bay region.

Maintaining these assets is essential for Emergency Services personnel to have easy access to fully functioning hydrants with sufficient water pressure and flow rates for firefighting, keeping our community safe.

Project Details

This project will begin in July 2025 with construction expected to take approximately four months, weather and site conditions permitting.

These works will include:

  • Preliminary site investigations to assess hydrants and valves.
  • Replacing valves and hydrants, as well as fittings, surrounds and lids.
  • Commissioning of new infrastructure to test it meets specific performance requirements and can support the community.

We will have two crews working simultaneously across the 40 individual work areas to expedite the program. Each work area is expected to take one approximately one week, however, due to the varying conditions of the existing infrastructure across each site, the impact and extent of works may vary.

Any disruption to the work area will be restored post-construction.

To enable these works, some water supply interruptions will be necessary. If your water supply is affected, you will receive a notification in advance of any interruption.

During Construction

During construction, there will be some impact to traffic with speed limit reductions and traffic control measures. There may be some impact to street parking during the works. Our construction crew will be happy to help residents and motorist navigate the worksite if needed.

Noise can be expected due to excavation, earthworks and general construction activities.

Construction will include both day and night works to minimise impacts on residents and businesses.

Our construction crew will work to minimise impacts on the community as this program of works is rolled out. We thank you for your patience while we complete these works to keep our community safe.
