In December 2019 Unitywater in conjunction with M&K Pipelines constructed a new sewerage main to futureproof the network. The Maroochydore Coastal Sewerage System runs from Alexandra Headland to the Maroochy River and had previously reached capacity.
Since 2010, the Maroochydore sewer network had experienced several sewage spills during extreme wet weather and with the expected catchment population growth, an upgrade of the system was vital to the network.
The sewerage main was completed in three stages using a combination of trenching and drilling.
Unitywater built the following infrastructure to increase the network's capacity:
a sewage pump station at the site of the old Horton Park Golf Course car park
a sewer rising main from Dalton Drive which connected the existing sewer at the intersection of Sunshine Motorway and Maroochydore Road.
The project has now been completed and has now freed up capacity in the Maroochydore Coastal Sewerage System as well as reduce the load on the wider Maroochydore sewerage network.
