Trenchless pipe installation a win for environment
The Waraba Wastewater Network has recently celebrated a major project milestone with the successful completion of the final Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) pull-through under Dobson Creek.
This milestone marks the final step in the critical underground crossing portion of the wider HDD project and ensures that the new pipeline can be connected to existing infrastructure in the region with minimal impacts on local residents.
The Unitywater and Killard-Tallai Joint Venture (KTJV) teams have worked closely and collaboratively to deliver a project combining the highest standard in engineering, construction, community engagement and wastewater management to service the region for the future.
Chosen specifically for its lowered impact potential, HDD is a trenchless installation method allowing for minimal environmental impact to local creeks, shared green spaces, wildlife, and flora, as well as minimal infrastructure and traffic disruption to the lives of residents, state of local roads.
Throughout the project, Unitywater and KTJV have engaged with the community in order to greater inform residents of the project and understand how construction impacts can be minimised through flyer distributions, meetings with local groups, doorknocking, and open-invite coffee mornings.
Upon completion, the Waraba Wastewater Network will be underpinned by more than 4.5 kilometres of new pipeline and a new wastewater pumping station to support the area as the local population grows to over 70,000 in the coming decades.
