Bribie Island Road - Water Main Upgrade

Project background

Unitywater is committed to enabling growth for communities in the Moreton Bay region by investing in upgrading water services.

The Bribie Island Road Water Main Upgrade project will help meet ensure long-term water security to the Bribie Island region, improving the water network’s overall reliability by reducing reactive and operational issues, and increasing pipe capacity.

About the project

The Bribie Island Road Water Main Upgrade includes installing approximately 260 metres of new pipeline between 216 and 240 Bribie Island Road and beneath the road crossing outside 240 Bribie Island Road.

From mid February 2026 to late June 2026, our delivery partner Downer and their subcontractors will begin mobilising to site to construct the Bribie Island Road water main upgrade. This work will take approximately five months to complete, weather and ground conditions permitting.

The water main upgrade will primarily be carried out using Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) and Auger Boring methodologies. These methods will help minimise disruption and impacts to the surrounding community and the environment.

Impacts

  • Changed traffic conditions and lane closures will be implemented during the work. Please observe all signage, drive to the conditions, and follow the directions of traffic controllers at all times. You may experience short traffic delays when moving through traffic control. So please plan your journey ahead of time.
  • Vegetation clearing. We understand that local fauna and flora are highly valued by the community. We have conducted extensive environmental investigations and adapted our construction methodology where possible to ensure we are minimising the number of trees / shrubs that are required to be removed. All vegetation clearing will be overseen by a qualified fauna spotter, project arborist, and in consultation with representatives from the Kabi Kabi People’s Aboriginal Corporation. Like for like revegetation works will also be undertaken as part of our restoration works.
  • Water pressure. You may notice a slight fluctuation in water pressure at certain stages of the work. This is temporary and will return to normal once works are completed. Please note that no unexpected water loss will occur.
  • Night work. The majority of works will be undertaken between 6:30am and 6:30pm, Monday to Friday, however due to the busy day traffic on Bribie Island Road, some work will be undertaken at night, between 6:30pm and 6:30am, Sunday to Thursday. We will notify nearby residents prior to any nightworks or changes.
